Neighborhood Historic Homes Walking Tour

The neighborhood surrounding West Side Park is one of the oldest and grandest neighborhoods in all of Champaign. The land for these lots between State Street and Prospect Avenue was subdivided primarily from 1854 through 1890. By 1900, Prospect Avenue formed the western edge of Champaign. These stately homes served as residences for some of Champaign's most wealthy and distinguished individuals. While much has changed over the past 150 years in Champaign, these streets still retain much of the charm that made them desirable locations all those years ago.

The tour starts at  West Side Park and travels down University Avenue and Church Street. The tour travels around a mile and a quarter and takes around an hour and fifteen minutes to complete. Join us as we learn about the architecture of the homes and the families that inhabited them.
