Champaign County has a rich history of athletics, from collegiate sports to world-renowned Olympians. Within this rich history is a relatively unknown athlete who became a star. Dorothy Schroeder became the youngest player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) at the age of 15 in 1943. She went on to become the only woman to play in all twelve years of the league's existence.
She held numerous records during her monumental career and received national fame even travelling internationally.
